Save the Date – Pay What You Can Day is March 12!

2019 Class 1 Participant Dmytryk and Chef Eugene Temple

Café Reconcile has announced its first “Pay What You Can Day” of the year, taking place on March 12, 2019 from 11am to 2:30pm. The café will be offering a shortened menu and is encouraging patrons to pay whatever they are able, whether it is $1 or $100. Patrons will be able to enjoy their choice of either Fried Catfish with Mac and Cheese and Green Peas, Smothered Turkey Necks with Cabbage and Rice, or Irish Cold Pasta as entrees. Apple Crisp will be available for dessert. All patrons are encouraged to pay what they can for their first plate. If they would like to order more, plates are sold at $10/plate.

Over the course of eight weeks, students are inspired to cultivate the skills they already hold through two stages: Foundational Life Skills Classes and Workforce Training. During the eight weeks that students spend at Reconcile, they also receive extensive wrap-around support services. Cafe Reconcile follows students for 12 months post-program to continue to offer these supports.

“Pay What You Can is an outreach that allows RNO to interact with the community and inform them about the services and trainings we provide to our students,” says Eugene Temple, Head Chef at Café Reconcile. This year, Café Reconcile will host a total of three Pay What You Can Days: March 12, August 20, and December 10. Patrons can look forward to delicious seasonal items that are not on the regular menu.

Café Reconcile has transformed the lives of more than 1,700 young people since opening in 2000.  The program works with more than 90 new “opportunity youth” per year and over 250 alumni — young people aged 16-24 who lack employment and educational opportunities or both.  Café Reconcile’s eight-week Life Skills and Workforce Development Program addresses barriers to success, such as homelessness and untreated trauma, while teaching the culinary and professional skills necessary to gain and sustain employment.

Café Reconcile is open for lunch Monday through Friday, 11 am to 2:30 pm, except on holidays. To learn more about Café Reconcile, visit: www.cafereconcile.org.
